Super Immunity: Get to Know Your Body’s Ultimate Line of Defense

Super Immunity: Stay “On Guard” against getting sick

Your body has an amazing defense system specifically designed to guard you against millions of bacteria, microbes, viruses, toxins and parasites all laying siege to invade your body. You probably wouldn’t give much thought to it, except that occasionally it becomes run down and you get sick.

What is this amazing system?

It’s your immune system, and to understand its power, all you have to do is observe what happens when something dies. After death, the immune system shuts down and in a matter of hours the body is invaded by all sorts of bacteria, microbes, and parasites until it decomposes. None of these things are able to get in when  your immune system is working, but the moment your immune system stops the door is wide open. As you can see, keeping the immune system in top shape plays a huge role in maintaining good health.

Give your immune system a boost

Reduce Your Stress

Studies show a steady stream of stress can weaken your immune system. Reduce your stress by avoiding whatever stressors you can. Take time to relax and do things your enjoy.

Eat Your Antioxidants

Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables can help you get a healthy dose of antioxidants, which can help protect your cells from free radicals and molecules that can damage cells

Take Your Vitamins

A daily multivitamin will help ensure that your body is getting all of the building blocks for a healthy immune system. Some nutrients that may be especially important for immune system health include selenium, vitamins A, C, D, and E, zinc and magnesium.

Use Essential Oils

Essential oils can be used to clean counter tops and doorknobs, or diffused to purify stale air. Additionally, essential oils can be used topically or internally as directed to boost your body’s own natural defenses. Used aromatically, essential oils can also reduce stress, which is a key contributor to weakening the immune system.

Avoid Processed Foods

Processed foods such as fast foods, snack foods, candy, and soda don’t provide much in the way of vitamins, fiber, or other nutrients. And they often contain high levels of sugar, and other additives and chemicals that are not good for your body. Choose nutrient-rich foods such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grains

Keep Your Body Moving

One simple way to strengthen your immune system is by exercising. Getting regular exercise can also reduce stress and help lower your risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. Exercise moderately a few times a week

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Without enough sleep, your immune system may not have the resources it needs to night off illness. Most adults need about seven to nine hours of sleep each night.

Wash Your Hands

One of the easiest ways to help your immune system fight illness is to wash your hands regularly. It’s also one of the best ways to keep yourself and others healthy. Be sure to use soap and clean, running water, and wash for at least 20 seconds. If you don’t have access to soap and water, use an cleansing essential oil, such as On Guard.

Swine Flu and other Infectious Risks by Dr. David Hill

This is an article written by Dr. David Hill from doTERRA regarding methods for keeping yourself clear of infectious diseases.

Swine Flu and other Infectious Risks

Unfortunately, germs and our exposure to them are a regular occurrence. As resistance and new strains continue to develop, we are at an increasing risk for serious infection.

I realize that there are many discussion threads regarding the potential dangers concerning the swine flu and other infectious health risks. There is much in the way of scientific medical research which demonstrates the efficacy of essential oils against a variety of pathogenic germs. Naturally occurring compound groups such as alcohols, phenols and aldehydes are often identified as being the most beneficial. I feel confident that it is a reasonable and responsible approach to use essential oils daily in a model of prevention and for resolution of symptoms in the cases of exposure.

In general, reducing our exposure and enhancing immune protection is our best defense. I suggest using dōTERRA essential oils in the following way:

1. Establish the daily routine of applying doTERRA’s OnGuard blend on the bottom of feet (for yourself as well as family members) both morning and night, which creates long-lasting and consistent protection.

2. Diffuse doTERRA essential oils in your home routinely throughout the day. On Guard and your favorite citrus oil combined is a potent and uplifting aroma.

3. Drink plenty of water. Adding a few drops of your favorite citrus oil will enhance your body’s natural defenses.

4. Viruses and bacteria are found in staggering numbers on surfaces. Use essential oils to thoroughly clean and disinfect all surfaces you and your family come in contact with. A mixture of Wild Orange, On Guard, and Thyme is especially potent. Diluting the mixture with water in a small glass spray bottle can easily be used anywhere, anytime. Simply spray and wipe for germ-free surfaces on the go.

5. Wash and wipe your hands using essential oils. Adding essential oils to your favorite soap increases effectiveness.

6. Use essential oils in combination to enhance their germ fighting benefits. The essential oils of On Guard (dōTERRA’s natural defense blend), Oregano, and Thyme are a critical part of your family’s protection plan. At the onset of any infection this combination used internally by capsule ingestion or on the bottom of the feet can offer quick relief and elimination.

7. Maintain the basis of personal health through appropriate supplementation. Using dōTERRA Lifelong Wellness pack has immune sustaining benefits for your entire family. With an ORAC score of nearly 6000 per serving, every cell in your body is fortified.

Using CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils is a safe and consistent approach to safeguarding individual and family health.

doTERRA Essential Oil Infused Chocolates…

Great recipe from

  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 16 ounces bittersweet or dark chocolate baking bars, broken in 1/4-inch pieces (for best results, we recommend using Ghirardelli brand)
  • 1 ½ sticks unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 2/3 cup Unsweetened cocoa
  • 10 drops CPTG Essential Oils of Lavender, Peppermint, Cinnamon,  Fennel, or Wild Orange

In a microwave-safe glass bowl, melt together the cream, chocolate and butter in 30 second increments, stirring each time, until smooth. Remove from heat and add essential oils, stirring until well incorporated. Pour the chocolate mixture into a shallow bowl. Cool, cover and refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours.
On parchment paper or a pie plate, spread the cocoa powder evenly. Line an airtight container with parchment (or waxed) paper. Dip a melon baller or small spoon into a glass of warm water and quickly scrape across the surface of the chilled truffle mixture to form a rough 1-inch ball. Drop the ball into the cocoa. Repeat with the remaining truffle mixture. Gently roll the truffles to evenly coat them with the cocoa powder. Transfer truffles to the prepared container, separating layers with additional waxed paper. Can be refrigerated in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Variations: Use the same recipe above and instead of cocoa powder, try dipping the truffles in melted white chocolate or rolling them in chopped almonds or pecans. If making peppermint chocolate truffles, why not roll them in crushed peppermint candies? Get creative! The possibilities are endless!

Common uses for Wild Orange oil

Wild orange is one of the most powerful and aromatic of the essential oils.  It is excellent for disinfecting and killing fungus and pathogens.  It has very effective actions against colds and flu, and is highly recommended for use during their early stages.

Wild orange also supports the elimination toxins from the body, while stimulating the lymphatic system.

It can be both energizing and uplifting and sedative.  It does this by instilling feelings of peace.  It can be used in the treatment of anorexia.

Wild orange’s main constituent, limonene, has powerful anti-cancer activity, suggesting that this oil might be effective as an anti-cancer agent.

It also supports collagen formation in the skin.

Modern research into Wild Orange oil

In clinical testing, the antioxidant Citrus sinensis exhibited absolute fungitoxicity (it kills fungi) against 10 post-harvest pathogens.  It was also absolutely toxic for spore germination.

A university study has demonstrated that wild orange oil is highly effective as an antidepressant.

Other uses for Wild Orange oil

Diffusing wild orange is very effective at killing pathogens in the air.  It provides a very pleasant way to disinfect and kill bacteria, and assists with colds and flu.

Diffusing wild orange can also be beneficial for nervous tension and stress, and is relaxing for children at bedtime.

Diffuse in the car on long trips.  It is very calming and uplifting, and relieves stress.  Its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-pathogenic activity also enhances the enjoyment of travel.

Put 1-2 drops of wild orange in drinking water.  It’s a good diuretic, and is most useful in balancing water retention, and may be helpful with obesity.  Its lymphatic-stimulant action further helps to balance water processes, as well as detoxification, aiding the immune system and general well-being. Can be very helpful for acid reflux or heartburn.  It has a powerful alkalizing effect on the system, making it very effective for many digestive issues.

Blended in massage oil or added to a bath, wild orange assists with colds and flu, eliminates toxins from the body, boosts the lymphatic and immune system and helps ease nervous tension and stress.

Add to furniture polish, to help protect furniture against damage from insects.

Add several drops of wild orange oil to some water in a spray bottle, shake well, to disperse the oil, and spritz on bed sheets, drapes or upholstery (think Febreze®).  May also be sprayed into the air as a fragrant, pathogen-killing air freshener for kitchens and bathrooms.
