Uses and Bioavailability of Essential Oils

eo 5

Essential oils are volatile aromatic compounds that are fat soluble and liquid. With more than 3,000 compounds properly identified, the clinical efficacy of essential oils is well established. A number of studies that have demonstrated the therapeutic properties of volatile aromatic compounds in a test tube, but how does this data correlate to the complex physiology of the human body? Investigating the absorption, distribution, and metabolism of volatile aromatics is the key to linking the data from test tube studies to real models of human use.

There is adequate evidence suggesting that although essential oils are metabolized quickly, their distribution throughout the body is considered to be relatively high. Traditionally, there have been three acceptable models for essential oil usage: topical, oral, and aromatic. Previous research trials have demonstrated the value of topical and aromatic protocols. Due in part to the volatility of essential oils, aromatic exposure is by far the most effective. Aromatics are easily inhaled and then absorbed through the respiratory tract and lungs and then circulated through the blood stream.

eo 3

Topical application is also effective for initiating a response throughout the body because the fat soluble nature of essential oils allows them to easily penetrate through the membranes of cells and be rapidly absorbed through the skin. Monoterpenoid compounds, just one of the many types of chemical constituents found in essential oils, are readily absorbed after topical application. The absorption of monoterpenoid compounds has been verified through analysis of blood concentrations of essential oils compounds. Maximum levels were achieved in as little as 10 minutes

The oral ingestion of essential oils is still under investigation. It is appropriate to assume that the effects of essential oils may be due to a single compound or the entire mixture of chemical components in the essential oil. How essentials oils affect the body depends on their interaction with the bloodstream, hormones, and enzymes. Currently, human trials studying essential oil pathways are limited, but emerging science continues to support the use of volatile compounds internally. There is great interest in understanding more about the direct activity of essential oils in the human body, especially in regard to internal use. Current scientific research has identified several possible mechanisms of absorption and metabolism.

Considering that data is only valuable if it uses correct methods and principles of human physiology, there are two key elements to determining the effectiveness of oral administration. First, it is important to understand the pathways by which essential oils are absorbed. Secondly, it is important to develop a specialized delivery system to maximize absorption of essential oils throughout the entire body.

eo 1

Most studies suggest that essential oil compounds are easily absorbed and that only a small portion of the essential oil remains unchanged. This means then that much of the essential oil is metabolized regardless of the method of application. After being properly metabolized, essential oil compounds are eliminated through the kidneys or other drug metabolism pathways.

Another interesting aspect of essential oil metabolism is that the compounds in the oil are not metabolized in identical ways. Take thymol for example, (an aromatic compound present in many different essential oils). One study showed that when used internally, thymol was absorbed quickly and detected in the blood in only 20 minutes. This quick absorption suggests that thymol was absorbed through the small intestine, the upper most absorptive organ of the digestive tract.

What appears to be most relevant in essential oil application methods is the consistency with which essential oil compounds are delivered and are useable to target organs and cells. It is reasonable to suggest that current research has shown both aromatic and topical applications are beneficial and effective. With respect to oral use, the potential of essential oils to have therapeutic benefits throughout the body depend on dosage, chemical structure, and other variables. This does not, however, suggest that internal use is unsubstantiated. Sufficient studies and other models of personal and clinical reference support this type of usage. eo 2

New medical technology is designed to optimize systemic delivery of fat soluble compounds. Fats are poorly soluble because they are not easily absorbed through watery layers such as those found in the intestinal tract. Self-Emulsifying technology allows fat soluble molecules to become emulsified, or dispersed into a watery substance. In the intestinal tract, this technology allows fat soluble components to be delivered through the intestinal wall. This is a specialized delivery system that allows for isolated molecules to be delivered throughout the body. dōTERRA uses this technology in its xEO Mega and DDR Prime soft gels.

I believe that future study will illustrate more methods of use to achieve the full benefit of the medicinal qualities of essential oils. While there is much yet to understand, I maintain a perspective of belief and appreciation for what has been a well-founded and historically relevant review of essential oil usage.

Underestimated Peppermint!

DoTerra Essential Oil

Peppermint Essential Oil
Mentha piperita

Peppermint is popular in countless forms, from toothpaste to chewing gum. As an essential oil, it is useful to ease breathing and as a digestive aid

Peppermint is one of the oldest — and most highly regarded — herbs, and has been an integral part of herbal medicine for thousands of years.  It has a very wide range of uses, from soothing digestion to improving concentration and mental accuracy.

Key properties of peppermint oil

Some of the therapeutic properties ofpeppermint include: analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, astringent, expectorant and stimulant.

Common uses for peppermint oil

Peppermint oil can be used for its calming effect to relieve stress and tension.  It is also effective for relieving the headaches associated with stress or digestive upset, as well as for migraines.  Just apply a few drops to the back of the neck for stress, or to the temples to relieve a headache. (careful not to get in eyes)

During the cold and flu season, peppermint can really prove itself to you.  It works well in reducing fever (just apply a few drops to the bottom of the feet).  It is also great at opening and clearing sinus and respiratory congestion.  It relieves headaches, diarrhea and nausea, and can bring a wide range of comforts to the misery of colds and flu.  (I’d hate to be sick without it.)

The FDA has certified peppermint as GRAS, so it may also be ingested.  I’ll put a drop or two on the tongue and let it dissolve there before swallowing.

Peppermint is a natural choice to add refreshment to any beverage.  I also add it to purified water to sooth my digestion and to refresh and invigorate me.  It also freshens the breath and reduces the buildup of the bacteria that cause dental plaque and gum problems.

During the summer months, it offers the added benefits of being very cooling, making hot weather much more bearable.

The fragrance of peppermint oil is uplifting and invigorating.  Applied topically, this oil is very soothing to tired, sore muscles.  It has analgesic properties, and can be helpful for menstrual problems or skin disorders.

Peppermint oil was used by the ancient Egyptians and Romans, as well as many other groups throughout history.  Today, it is very widely used in foods, candies, gums, dental products, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.  In fact, it may well be one of the most readily recognizable scents and flavors.

However, because of essential oils, like peppermint, gaining mainstream acceptance, it is more important than ever before to avoid essential oils that are impure or of inferior quality.  In today’s economy, anything that is widely accepted tends to get mass produced; but, with high volume production processes, there is generally a sacrifice of quality and purity for the sake of the bottom line.

With essential oils, as with most things, you get what you pay for.

Modern research into peppermint oil

Recently, peppermint has been the focus of several studies that target its known benefits for improved digestion and anti-inflammatory activity in the intestinal tract.  Dr. P. Gardiner, M.D. has done studies on peppermint for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), digestive disorders, as a decongestant and for headaches.

Jean Valnet, M.D., studied peppermint’s effect on the liver and respiratory systems.

Other scientists have researched peppermint’s ability, when inhaled, to restore impaired taste and smell.

Dr. William N. Dember, of the University of Cincinnati, studied peppermint’s ability to improve concentration and mental accuracy.  It was found that, when peppermint was diffused in a room, the subjects were much more mentally alert, and mental accuracy was improved by about 25%.

Alan Hirsch, M.D., studied peppermint’s ability to directly affect the brain’s satiety center, which triggers a sense of fullness after meals.  As you can imagine, this could make peppermint oil a very helpful aide for weight loss

Other uses for peppermint oil

Rub 4-6 drops in the palm and rub over stomach and around the navel to relieve indigestion, flatulence and diarrhea.

Add a drop of peppermint oil to herbal tea, to aid in digestion and relieve heartburn.

Apply peppermint oil immediately to an injured area (bruised shin, hit on the foot or hand) to relieve pain.  If there is a cut, apply thepeppermint oil around (not on) the open wound.

Inhale peppermint oil before and during a workout, to boost your mood and reduce fatigue.

To stop hiccups, apply a drop of peppermint oil on each side of the fifth cervical vertebra (up three notches from the large vertebra at the base of the neck).

Place two drops of peppermint oil on the tongue and rub another drop under the nose to improve alertness and concentration.  (Note: be careful not to swallow right away; allow the oil to completely dissolve on the tongue before swallowing.)

To deter rats, mice, ants or cockroaches, place two drops of peppermint oil on a cotton ball, and place along the path or point of entry for these pests.

Inhale the fragrance of peppermint oil to curb the appetite and lessen the impulse to overeat.

Get To Know Doterra TerraZyme: Digestive Enzyme Complex

doTerra TerraZyme:

doTERRA’s TerraZyme™ Digestive Enzyme Complex is a proprietary blend of active wholefood enzymes and supporting mineral cofactors that are often deficient in cooked, processed, and preservative-laden foods. TerraZyme’s powerful combination of digestive enzymes support the body’s constant production of enzymes critical for healthy biochemical functions throughout the body including healthy digestion of food nutrients and cellular metabolism of nutrients to energy. TerraZyme includes a variety of whole-food enzymes that help with digestion of proteins, fats, complex carbohydrates, sugars and fiber.

Enzymes are specialized proteins that function as catalysts in almost all cellular functions and chemical reactions throughout the body. Enzymes play a critical role in growth, healing, and reproduction. They are also necessary for breathing, thinking, immune function, hormone regulation, detoxification, and thousands of other biochemical functions. Enzymes are also necessary for digesting food nutrients and converting nutrients to energy in cells.

Enzymes can originate inside and outside the body. Endogenous enzymes are produced in the body and can be classified as metabolic enzymes and digestive enzymes. Metabolic enzymes are active in blood, tissues, and organs. Digestive enzymes are excreted by the liver and pancreas and help the body convert food to usable nutrients. Exogenous enzymes are enzymes originating outside the body and are classified as food enzymes. Food enzymes are found in raw, unprocessed foods and help break down nutrients during digestion.

The body’s ability to constantly produce metabolic and digestive enzymes is limited by raw material availability and production capacity. If our diets do not include sufficient food enzymes to break down the food we eat, our body’s endogenous enzyme resources must be directed towards the production of digestive enzymes to speed conversion of food to bioavailable nutrients. Production capacity directed towards the production of digestive enzymes is capacity not available for the production of important metabolic enzymes.

The body’s constant need to produce digestive enzymes can result in chronic deficiencies in metabolic enzymes that are critical for optimal health and cell function. One example of an important metabolic enzyme is superoxide dismutase (SOD) which protects cells from free-radical molecules. Metabolic enzymes are also necessary for energy production, tissue growth and repair, and managing toxic waste products. When we eat foods that are rich in food enzymes, our bodies can use fewer resources to produce digestive enzymes and have more capacity to create optimal levels of metabolic enzymes.

Chronic enzyme deficiencies have been associated with numerous sub-optimal health conditions including gastrointestinal disease, yeast infections, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue, compromised immune system, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease among other degenerative conditions.

Digestive Enzyme Complex

TerraZyme’s powerful combination of whole-food enzymes support optimal health by promoting more efficient digestion of food nutrients and by reducing the demand for internal production of digestive nutrients thus freeing resources for optimal levels of metabolic enzyme production and activity. Q & A

1. Why is TerraZyme better than other enzymes?

a. TerraZyme’s enzymes are derived from different types of fungal sources (Aspergillus, Rhizopus, Trichoderma, Saccharomyces). One source works at a very low pH (acidic) environment and  another works at a very high (alkaline) environment. TerraZyme is active from pH 1.7 to a pH 11. This allows it to be used not only for pre-digestive stages but also throughout the whole digestive tract and blood stream.

b. TerraZyme also contains all the minerals necessary to activate each enzyme in the product. Every enzyme has its own mineral that helps it to work better. Only TerraZyme contains each specific mineral for each specific enzyme. An enzyme without its co-factor mineral is like a light bulb without a light switch. This enzyme/mineral combination is our patented AES delivery system.

2. What is Enzyme Assimilation System and how does it work?

The Enzyme Assimilation System is the process of taking an enzyme with its activating co-factor mineral and combining it with a nutrient that can be broken down by that enzyme (i.e. a protein combined with protease and calcium ascorbate). When a protein combined with the right enzyme and mineral can be broken down faster and better than allowing the body to perform this task all by itself. Thus the body can utilize the nutrient with ease and not expend a lot of energy in the digestive process.

3. What about other digestive Enzymes? Will they help digest my food too?

There are two other varieties of digestive enzymes. Plant and Animal make up those two categories. Plant enzymes (usually derived from Bromelain and Papain (pineapples and papaya) are good for digesting protein but only outside the body (such as marinating a steak) as both are inactivated or destroyed at a pH of 4 or less. Your stomach acid is a pH of 2.5 depending on the meal and the person. Animal enzymes or pancreatin, chymotripsin, pepsin, or others, are good at digesting proteins and fats in the lower portion of the stomach, the duodenum and small intestines where the pH is  very acidic. This does nothing for pre-digestion in the cardiac stomach nor is it active in any pH over 5 as in the blood (roughly pH of 7.2). TerraZyme was made to be active at all pH levels from pre-digestion, through the small intestines and into the blood stream.

4. How can you prove that TerraZyme works in the blood stream?

Well this was a dilemma that we faced but we took on the challenge of proving it through various blood markers. If the lipase in TerraZyme were to enter the blood in an active form than we assumed that it would lower trigliceride levels at a much faster rate than what the normal human body could accomplish. We tested this theory by performing clinical studies drawing blood at different times after eating a meal and found that on average those who took TerraZyme with their meal dropped their trigliceride levels by more than 18% over those who did not take TerraZyme. We followed through on other food by-products including blood glucose levels, serum uric acid levels and cholesterol levels. All were improved by taking TerraZyme. Though its use is still not recognized by the CDC nor NIH, we also tested TerraZyme with the Darkfield microscope with excellent results

5. Can I benefit from taking TerraZyme with or without food?

Yes. If you take TerraZyme with your meal it will aids in all stages of digestions thus allowing the body to use the energy it would have used, to be used for other bodily functions. If you take TerraZyme on an empty stomach, the enzymes will survive the process and enter into the blood stream. It will search for proteins, sugars and fats to break down so the body can then process or eliminate them.

6. If enzymes enter your blood in an active stage, won’t they digest my  cells too?

This is a common question among physicians who don’t understand the body’s physiological processes or who are against any supplement. Your own body’s cells contain enzymes that destroy other enzymes. We call these enzymes “enzyme inhibitors”. Every living tissue contains these enzyme inhibitors (except skin cells). This is why your body does not digest itself. A red or white blood cell will not be affected by live digestive enzymes working in your blood, only residues of things that should not be in your body will be affected by the enzymes.

7. Then will TerraZyme break down arterial plaque?

Yes. There is a very well written book containing many clinical studies on this very topic. The book is called Enzymes, The Foundation of Life by Dr’s Williams, Meickle and Lopez. Over several years they performed clinical studies on arterial thrombosis, diabetic arterial blockage, and hematomas (bruises), all of which showed great improvement when one consumed large doses of enzymes.

8. Can anyone take enzymes?

Yes, from infants to senior citizens, if you eat cooked food you should be taking enzymes.

9. Are there any drug contraindications?

If your doctor has told you to avoid raw food while on your medication, maybe you should avoid taking an enzyme supplement. So far there are no prescription drugs that have ever shown to work adversely with the enzymes found in TerraZyme.

10. Is there a particular type of person who would benefit most from taking TerraZyme?

If you are overweight or under weight, suffer from diabetes, hypoglycemia, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, heart disease, crone’s disease, heartburn, constipation, acid reflux, chronic fatigue, high blood pressure, Candida or fungal infections, gout, kidney stones, or inflammation of any kind, you are a perfect candidate for enzyme supplementation.

“I started using frankincense daily to help with the inflammation in my back.  I have multiple herniated disks and frankincense, along with Deep Blue, peppermint and lavender has helped my pain–it’s nice not having to take medication daily.” – Zach J.
“I have used frankincense for many things, from supporting the respiratory system to the skin. Recently I was feeling extremely anxious and could not figure out why. I went to my oils and frankincense just seemed to jump out at me, so I put some on and put it in my bag to carry that day. I reapplied as I noticed the feeling, and by noon, I wasn’t feeling anxious anymore.Frankincense stimulates the limbic system of the brain which is the center of memory and emotions, so I felt that by stimulating positive emotions, I was able to overcome the anxiousness I was feeling. Frankincense is also used for spiritual protection and healing and is referenced over 52 times in the Bible. “-Niki M.
“I would like to share my husband’s testimony regarding frankincense. He developed a sore on the back of his neck which quickly became a lump. He agreed to let a physician look at it, and was told that he needed to see a dermatologist because he suspected that it was skin cancer. He said that they would set up his appointment for him.I told my husband what I had learned about frankincense so he eagerly agreed to use it. I applied it to what was now an open sore, and within the next several days we witnessed it decreasing in size and appearance. We believe that God our Father had His hand on this situation because we didn’t receive a call regarding the scheduled appointment until after the lump and open sore was healing. We continued to apply the frankincense and we are thankful to report that there is absolutely no evidence that anything was there. Praise be to God for these special oils! ” -Darla F
“My husband is the biggest sceptic when it comes to essential oils. He has been diagnosed with emphysema. Once he had a cold and his lungs were making it difficult for him to get a full breath. I asked his permission and used Frankincense, and Eucalyptus directly on the skin of his back and chest corresponding to the lungs. I placed a few drops of each oil on my hands and applied to the four sides of his body: front left, front right, back left and back right. His lungs cleared in a few minutes he had a loose, productive cough” -Laura
It’s been many years in the making but I can now share my testimonial on Frankincense and breast masses. This past month I finally got my first ‘normal’ mamogram in many years. I’ve had fibrocystic breasts since the age of 26. But in my 40’s when I started getting mamograms my left breast was always unstable requiring more and more views. Meaning more and more radiation. I once questioned the doctor about how I thought all this radiation was doing more harm than good. He said the benefits far outweighed the risks. I was introduced to essential oils and decided to take matters into my own hands. I stopped going in every six months for mamograms and used Frankincense neet on my breasts daily. I waited about three years and went back for a mamogram. They said they now needed to do an ultrasound. So I went for the ultra sound and then they wanted me to get another one. Finally I got ahold of the doctor and questioned her what they were looking for and she said that when I went in for the mamogram after three years of not having any, the three masses they were following in my breast weren’t there and they were looking deeper to see if they went deeper into my breast. But they didn’t. They completely dissappeared. So, just to be sure I waited till this year, went in for my annual mamogram, and just got the notice back saying my mamogram was normal. I use the oils every day for various things and they always work for me. – Joan

Bergamot Essential Oil

DoTerra Bergamot Essential Oil

A highly favored oil for its lovely fragrance, Bergamot is unique among citrus oils for its calming properties. dōTERRA®, in keeping with the CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® standard, cold-presses the oil from the rind of the bergamot fruit. For aromatic, topical, or internal use.

  • Topically – Can be applied neat to the skin. Can be applied to forehead, reflex points or directly onto the area of concern.
  • Aromatically – Can also be diffused.
  • Internally – Can be added to food or water to be taken internally. Bergamot has been classified as GRAS by the FDA for human consumption.

The health benefits of Bergamot Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties like deodorant, vulnerary, vermifuge, anti biotic, anti septic, anti spasmodic, sedative, analgesic, anti depressant, disinfectant, febrifuge, cicatrisant, digestive etc.

Bergamot is a citrus fruit whose rind is used for extracting the Bergamot Oil. The scientific name of Bergamot is Citrus Aurantium var. or Citrus Bergamia. It is a tropical plant but thrives well in Europe too.

This oil has been used in the Middle East for hundreds of years to help oily complexions and troubled skin.  It may also be used to soothe insect bites.  It is also what gives Earl Grey Tea its distinctive flavor.

Bergamot Oil has a very sweet smell and a number of medicinal and industrial uses due to its properties listed below

  • Anti depressant & Stimulant: The components of Bergamot Oil, like Alpha Pinene and Limonene, are anti depressant and stimulant in nature. They give a feeling of freshness, joy and energy in cases of sadness and depression by improving circulation. They also stimulate hormone secretion and thus help maintaining proper rates of metabolism. This stimulating effect increases secretion of digestive juices, bile and insulin, thereby aiding digestion, proper absorption of nutrients, assimilation and decomposition of sugar and the resultant lowering of blood sugar level.
  • Relaxant & Sedative: The Flavonoids present in Bergamot oil are very good relaxants too. They soothe nerves and reduce nervous tension, anxiety, stress etc. and hence help cure ailments associated with stress such as sleeplessness, high blood pressure etc.
  • Anti Biotic & Disinfectant: Certain components of the essential oil of Bergamot are anti biotic and disinfectant in nature. They inhibit growth of germs, virus and fungi. They also effectively prohibit infections, such as those of skin. If regularly used with bathing water or in soaps (this is already used extensively in skin-care soaps), the skin and hair remains protected from infections and become shiny. It also cures infections of colon, intestines, urinary tract and kidney
  • Anti Septic & Vulnerary: The same disinfectant and anti biotic properties of Bergamot Oil make it a good anti septic and vulnerary agent. It not only helps fast healing up of wounds, cracks on skin and heels, ulcers, eczema, itches etc. but also protects wounds from being septic and developing tetanus.
  • Febrifuge: Febrifuge is a substance or an agent that reduces fever and lowers body temperature. Bergamot is a good febrifuge due to many reasons. First, being an anti biotic, it fights infections from virus, bacteria and protozoa which cause fever, such as influenza (virus), malaria (protozoa) and typhoid (typhus bacteria), and thus helps curing fever. Second, it stimulates the metabolic system and secretions, thereby giving a feeling of warmth and resulting in more secretion (perspiration or sweat) from the Eccrine glands (sweat glands) and sebaceous (sebum) glands, thus reducing body temperature.
  • Analgesic: It reduces the feeling of pain in the body. Actually it stimulates secretion of certain hormones which lessen sensitivity of nerves to pain. Thus it is very helpful in case of headache, sprains etc. all those symptoms which require heavy dosage of analgesic pills.
  • Digestive: As discussed above, it activates and increases secretions of the digestive acids, enzymes and bile and facilitates digestion. It also synchronizes or regulates the peristaltic motion of the intestines and this way too, help in digestion.
  • Cicatrisant: This property of Bergamot oil is the reason behind its extensive use in cosmetics, skin-care products such as beauty soaps, creams, lotions etc. Cicatrisant is a property or an agent which helps the scar and other marks on the skin to disappear. It also makes the distribution of pigments and melanin even and uniform, resulting in the fading away of marks.
  • Deodorant: No doubt, this property of bergamot oil is going to attract the teenagers who are after every new deodorant in the market and desperately want something really refreshing and natural. This is an excellent deodorant. Its own refreshing aroma (fragrance) and disinfectant properties (which inhibit growth of germs causing body-odor) make it a really effective and attractive package as a deodorant.
  • Anti Spasmodic: It relaxes nerves and muscles and thus gives quick relief in cramps, convulsions, painful muscle contractions etc.
  • Vermifuge: It kills worms. Thus it is going to be a very fragrant choice for children who have worms. It can also be applied on the affected tooth or used as a mouthwash to kill oral germs and protect teeth from cavities.

Other Benefits:

It is also Tonic, that is, it tones up respiratory, circulatory, digestive, excretory, nervous system as well as skin and muscles. It is also anti congestive and is used in vaporizers to relieve congestion and respiratory problems, particularly during cough and cold.

Few Words of Caution:

Bergamot Oil must be protected from sunlight. Bergaptene, one of its components, becomes poisonous if exposed to sunlight. That is why it should be stored in dark bottles in dark places. Even exposure to sunlight should be avoided after it is applied or rubbed on skin (for 72 hours)

I LOVE this EO. I use it primarily for CP soaping, but it is an excellent scent for aromatherapy, massage, homemade cleaners, & creams. Everyone always wants to know what smell that is they can’t put their finger on. I always think of trees, oranges, and spices when I smell it. If you have never tried it, get some now!

-Jenny Jones

I use this oil (topically) primarily for its antispasmodic qualities. Combined with lavender, it does a wonderful job of helping me relax and let go at the end of the day.

-Ashley Phipps

Bergamot is one of my favorites for use in Aromatherapy. The sweet scent is not overpowering, yet it works wonders.

Look & Feel Better: Renewal Detox

Look & Feel Better: Cleanse and Renew

DoTerra 15 Day Cleanse for Better Health

If you’re like most of us, it’s time to get started on wellness goals again (you know, the ones that you may or may not have begun on New Year’s?). Getting started is simple, and your body will thank you for it! It all begins with a good cleanse.

Why do I need to cleanse?
Dietary toxins can accumulate in your system and lead to a variety of health problems. A cleanse helps eliminate those dietary toxins. Detoxification assists in keeping things in balance and eliminating harmful bacteria like candida and other harmful yeasts. The gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) is a vital organ in detoxifying.

Step 1: Cleanse–Begin by taking GX Assist (Days 1-10)
GX Assist is a proprietary blend of CPTG essential oils and caprylic acid that support a healthy digestive environment. It’s a GI cleansing formula that consists of essential oils studied for their effectiveness in detoxifying the GI tract: oregano, melaleuca, lemon, lemongrass, peppermint, and thyme essential oils. (start with one capsule and work your way up to 3 if you feel you can. Some people are able to have an effective cleanse with one – depending on how well your body responds to the oils)

What are the benefits of cleansing?
A cleanse will not only make you healthier, it will also lead to increased energy levels, rid the body of harmful toxins, and promote weight loss through the increased energy levels and stronger metabolism rate that will accompany it. Detoxification essentially enables a person and their body a fresh, new start.

Completing a cleanse using dōTERRA’s GX Assist provides your body with a fresh, new start. Now’s the time to maintain your body’s renewed and healthy environment with dōTERRA’s PB Assist .

Why do I need a probiotic?
Probiotics are microorganisms, similar to those found in the human body. They aid us in maintaining a natural balance within the digestive track. Probiotics are vital in reducing the growth of harmful bacteria, aiding the immune system, digestion, and the absorption of nutrients.

Step 2: Renew–take PB Assist (Days 10-15)
dōTERRA’s PB Assist is a potent blend of friendly probiotic microorganisms guaranteed to provide a minimum of 1 billion CFUs (colony-forming units) of live bacteria per dose. Delivered in a patented, time-release beadlet, shown in clinical studies to protect sensitive microflora from stomach acid for release in the intestine, PB Assist combines cutting-edge enteric-release technology with five proprietary strains of probiotic microorganisms that support healthy digestive functions and immunities. PB Assist is safe for use by all members of your family.

What are the benefits of a probiotic?
The word probiotic literally means “for life”. Adding a probiotic is a great way to maintain optimal core health. Probiotics promote healthy digestion, maintain regularity, support the immune system, provide proper nutrition, and return the body to optimal health.

Additional Help:

Drink 2-4 drops of Lemon Oil in 12 oz of water, 1-2 times a day

Rub Balance Oil Blend on bottoms of feet nightly

When I use GX Assist, I avoid sugar and white flour (these things feed Candida, which I am trying to kill). Every time I cleanse, I pass a surprising amount of gunk; and I’m glad to be eliminating all those harmful toxins! It is important to drink 8-10 glasses of water each day during the 10-day cleanse. I also lose body fat during my cleanse. -Vera B.

All Natural Acid Reflux Support

DoTerra Essential Oil Support For:

Acid Reflux / Heartburn

Gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly referred to as GERD or acid reflux, is a condition in which the liquid content of the stomach regurgitates (backs up or refluxes) into the esophagus. The liquid can inflame and damage the lining  of the esophagus although visible signs of inflammation occur in a minority of patients.

The  liquid usually contains acid and pepsin that are produced by the stomach. (Pepsin is an enzyme that begins the digestion of proteins in the stomach.)

GERD is a chronic condition. Once it begins, it usually is life-long

The risk factors for reflux include hiatal hernia (a condition in which part of the stomach moves above the diaphragm, which is the muscle that separates the chest and abdominal cavities), pregnancy, and scleroderma.

Obesity, cigarettes, and possibly alcohol also increase the chance of GERD.

Heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux can be brought on or worsened by pregnancy and many different medications.

Such drugs include:

Anticholinergics – Beta-blockers – Bronchodilators – Calcium channel blockers – Dopamine-active drugs – Progestin – Sedatives – Tricyclic antidepressants
