Fractionated Coconut Oil

dōTERRA®’s Fractionated Coconut Oil is an all-natural carrier oil that readily absorbs into the skin making it an ideal oil for topical therapies.

Its feather-light emollient effect provides a soothing barrier without clogging pores and is excellent for dry or troubled skin. It leaves skin feeling silky smooth, not greasy like other vegetable carrier oils. It is completely soluble with all essential oils and is colorless, odorless, and will not stain or go rancid.

Some oils, such as Oregano and Cassia, can be sensitive to the skin and require them to be diluted before applying topically. This is where carrier oils, like  Fractionated Coconut Oil, become important to have on hand.

Sometimes you would like apply an essential oil over a large area such as a back. You shouldn’t use any more than a 4-5 drops of an essential oil. What should you do?

Use a carrier oil. There are many oils people use for massage. Some may leave a greasy residue. Fractionated coconut oil is different from vegetable oil or other types of coconut oil.

It is a great carrier because it has been fractionated so it has small molecules to penetrate the skin and deliver essential oils. Vegetable oils or unrefined coconut oil will block the pores and the essential oils cannot work therapeutically.

What is fractionated coconut oil?

Fractionation, the method used for producing fractionated coconut oil, involves dividing the oil into smaller, more concentrated quantities.

Fractionated Coconut Oil is coconut oil that has been broken down to smaller molecules. It is structurally different than unrefined coconut oil. This is evident in that unrefined coconut oil is solid at room temperature where as fractionated coconut oil is not.

The double carbon bonds in the molecules of unrefined coconut oil reacts with oxygen, and it becomes rancid after a few months.

Fractionated Coconut oil has a shelf life that is indefinite.

The process to fractionate coconut oil requires no use of chemicals or additives so there are no chemical residues to worry about.

The same rules apply. It is important to have 100% Pure Fractionated Coconut Oil.

So when you are apply essential oils, make sure your carrier is 100% Pure Fractionated Coconut Oil. Another popular alternative is Jojoba (pronounced hohoba) oil.

Do you have any evidence to back that statement up? I’ve done the research and my findings say otherwise.

I’m continuously amazed by how many consumers and suppliers of natural/organic products make uninformed statements. Not pointing the finger at you specifically, but in general.

    • Hi Sam,
doTERRA’s whole philosophy is to double blind test each batch of oils to ensure there are no chemical or additives. If you research our oils specifically, that is what you will find :-)
